Award-Winning Design Rooted in Empathy, Craft, and Function
For Janine Arietta, interiors are more than finishes and furnishings; they are layered expressions of function, beauty, and soul. Originally from Boston, she grew up with an eye for detail and a love of elements that give a space depth, like a well-placed plaid or a special antique. Today, as founder of JAS Interior Designs and past president of ASID California Peninsula, Janine is celebrated for pairing technical precision with a client-first philosophy.
Her path to design began outside the industry, in banking and tech sales, but a “lightbulb moment” revealed that she could channel her creative instincts into helping people live better in their homes. She returned to school, trained under respected designers, and built her expertise at Bay Area firms including Bethe Cohen Design, where she learned to layer rhythm, texture, and form to create artistry. Later, as a Senior Designer at DeMattei Construction, she gained invaluable insight into the building process that still informs her work today.
Now leading JAS Interior Designs in Saratoga, Janine creates thoughtful, layered interiors that balance beauty with utility. “Our designs are never about one look or style,” she says. “They’re about reflecting the client—who they are and how they live. Each space should tell a story.”
Los Gatos Remodel: A Study in Layered Storytelling
A recent full-home remodel in Los Gatos beautifully illustrates Janine’s philosophy. Partnering with All Natural Stone, she crafted a cohesive yet varied material palette, bringing a sense of refined comfort to every corner of the home. “We treat finishes like storytelling tools. Every texture, tone, and surface has to align with the mood and purpose of the space,” Janine explains.
The Los Gatos residence has drawn industry acclaim, earning multiple awards for its thoughtful approach to materiality, but more importantly, it embodies Janine’s vision of layered, meaningful interiors.

Concrete-look floors and reclaimed brick-look tiles in a warm greige create a rustic, refined aesthetic. Sleek fixtures and thoughtfully chosen materials balance texture and tone, giving the space a sophisticated, masculine edge.
Collaboration and Craft
Throughout the home, each space demonstrates Janine’s mastery of materiality and function. By partnering with All Natural Stone to transform leftover field tiles into custom patterns, she introduces unique details that bring the story of the home to life.
“Our relationship with All Natural Stone goes back years,” Janine notes. “They’ve become true partners—not just in sourcing materials but in pushing creative boundaries. Their team is knowledgeable, solution-oriented, and they truly understand what designers need. They’re one of the rare showrooms where design, performance, and service all meet.”
