Q&A with Trish Striglos: Designing the All Natural Stone Coffee Bar in Dublin
Trish, tell us a little bit about your design approach for the new All Natural Stone coffee bar.
Our goal was to create a refined, hospitality-inspired moment within a busy commercial setting. The design needed to be highly functional and durable, while still embodying the All Natural Stone brand—elevated, natural, and thoughtfully curated.
We wanted it to feel intentional and beautifully integrated, without competing with the stunning showroom materials surrounding it.
How did you think about using stone in this project beyond the obvious?
Stone is incredibly versatile—you can manipulate it through finish, thickness, and cutting technique to serve different purposes while maintaining a cohesive look. We used the same material in multiple applications:
A polished countertop for a sleek, luxe surface
A backlit backsplash to highlight the stone’s natural luminosity and create an elegant glow
A durable tile floor, engineered for commercial/high-traffic use
Each treatment served a different purpose, but together they told a consistent material story.
Were there any design or material challenges you had to solve creatively?
We chose a stunning Brown Fantasy slab for the primary surface. Its movement and coloration paired beautifully with the cabinetry’s mesh grain.
One of the biggest wins was using backlighting to bring out the veining—adding depth and ambiance without overpowering the space. We also worked closely with the ANS sales team on fabrication details, especially around slip resistance for the flooring. Their expertise helped us push the boundaries of what’s possible with stone while ensuring the design remained practical and safe.
What makes designing for a commercial space—like a showroom—different from residential?
It’s about durability and restraint. In a showroom, the architecture has to support the product, not compete with it. That means being thoughtful about grout lines, surface wear, and how materials will hold up under heavy use.
The coffee bar was designed to be a quiet pause in a visually rich environment. It needed to feel elevated and welcoming—while still allowing the surrounding stone and tile to take center stage.
What do you hope visitors feel when they experience the finished space?
A sense of elegance and sophistication—a moment that reflects the brand’s quality, attention to detail, and appreciation for thoughtful design. It’s a subtle demonstration of what’s possible when design meets material expertise.
