Bold Contrast Meets Timeless Detail in the Ripon Residence

“I would characterize my design style as modern and sophisticated, with an emphasis on both aesthetic refinement and functionality,” shares Kristen Phillips, Principal Designer of Danville-based Bellissimo Decor. Over the years, Kristen has been nationally recognized for her ability to translate each client’s vision into imaginative spaces that reflect creativity, elegance, and a true sense of individuality.

Her design philosophy is rooted in balance: every space must serve practical needs while elevating the everyday experience.

“I’m drawn to minimalist, sleek elements,” she explains, “but I always strive to incorporate natural materials that provide warmth, texture, and visual interest.”

That thoughtful approach guided Bellissimo Decor’s recent custom design-build project in Ripon, CA. The home called for interiors that feel expansive and contemporary yet comfortable and timeless. Materials became the narrative thread, with dramatic slabs, natural textures, and curated finishes defining each room. “The most rewarding part of the Ripon Project was seeing how the large-format tiles and slabs became the centerpiece of the design,” Kristen reflects. “Their interaction with natural light brought a sense of movement and rhythm to the space. Paired with the collaboration of a talented team of architects, builders, and tradespeople, the result is a home that feels luxurious yet approachable.”

Kitchen

The heart of the home is anchored by polished Bianco Superiore quartzite. Expertly fabricated to showcase the stone’s striking vein pattern seamlessly from the range hood, down the backsplash, and across the island, creating a surface that is as breathtaking as it is functional. Magritte French Oak hardwood floors infuse the space with warmth, while Visual Comfort Kenway pendants in warm brass punctuate the design, adding subtle contrast without overpowering the stone.

Bay Area

In the bar, bold texture takes center stage. The back wall features All Natural Stone’s Kintsugi Collection in Hibi Dark, arranged in an abstract pattern that plays with light and shadow. EcoDomo’s recycled leather veneer in Black Knight Shagreen adds unexpected dimension to the cabinetry and shelving, while Diresco’s Beach Black polished quartz countertops complete the sophisticated mix of finishes.

Powder Bath

Sleek yet dramatic, the powder bath pairs polished White Santorini quartzite for the vanity and integrated sink with a herringbone porcelain mosaic that adds a sharp textural contrast. Anthracite linen veneer shelving grounds the space with both function and refinement.

Primary Bathroom

In the primary bath, serenity meets drama. Black wood-look porcelain tiles, laid in a chevron pattern across the tub wall and illuminated niches, create a striking focal point. Honed Calacatta Golden marble vanities introduce soft luxury and balance, bringing cohesion to the suite.

Boys’ Bathroom

Durability and style coexist in the boys’ bath. All Natural Stone’s Forge collection in Dark provides strength and edge, while CLEAF Palissandro Walnut vanities add richness, ensuring the space feels sleek yet lasting.

Kristen credits much of the project’s success to the materials themselves and to strong partnerships. “Working with ANS has been a game-changer,” she says. “Their commitment to innovation and the consistent expansion of their materials collection allows us to bring fresh, exciting elements to every project. Their deep understanding of material specifications and lead times ensures that we can meet demanding schedules without compromising on design.”

The Ripon project is a testament to Kristen’s philosophy that design can be both practical and inspiring. Through careful material selection and collaboration, Bellissimo Decor delivered a home that feels refined, personal, and built to stand the test of time.
